Building Independence and a Daily Routine

Everyone has their own daily routine. For some people, keeping track of appointments, household tasks and daily plans can be difficult.

This story shows how regular support helped one participant in the Liverpool area build a more structured daily routine.

The Challenge

The participant did not drive and found it hard to keep track of appointments. She also needed support to organise her daily activities and maintain her home.

Her needs could change from day to day. This meant her support needed to be flexible and work around her appointments and routine.

Understanding Everyday Support Needs

Daily tasks can take time and planning. Missing an appointment or falling behind with household tasks can also affect a person's routine. The right support can help people manage these tasks while still making their own choices.

Support looks different for every person. Some people may need help with planning their day. Others may need support to get to appointments or keep their home clean and safe. For this participant, regular and flexible support was important.

How NDHS Helped

NDHS provided regular support based on the participant's daily needs. This included help to maintain a clean and safe home environment.

NDHS also provided transport to appointments. This helped the participant arrive on time and attend appointments more reliably. Support workers also helped her organise and plan her daily schedule.

The support was adjusted when her appointments or routine changed.

Flexible Support Around Daily Life

A daily routine does not always stay the same. Appointments can change. New tasks can come up. Some days may need more support than others.

For this reason, support needs to suit the person. NDHS worked around the participant's individual needs and daily routine. The aim was to provide practical support where it was needed most.

The Outcome

With regular support, the participant was able to attend appointments more reliably.

She was also able to maintain her home environment and build a more structured daily routine. Having consistent support helped bring more order to her everyday activities.
