Glossary (A–Z) 

 

Allied Health 

Health professionals who aren’t doctors or nurses, like physiotherapists, occupational therapists, or speech pathologists. NDHS provides several allied health supports. 

Assessment 

A formal process to understand your needs, often required for therapies, assistive technology, or home modifications. NDHS professionals can provide or assist with assessments. 

Assistive Technology (AT) 

Equipment or devices that help you do things more independently, like mobility aids, communication tools, or special home equipment. 

Behaviour Support 

Specialist interventions to help reduce challenging behaviours and improve quality of life. NDHS offers therapeutic supports that may include behaviour strategies. 

Capacity Building Supports 

Supports that help you build skills and independence. NDHS offers several services in this category, including therapies, employment support, and exercise physiology. 

Capital Supports 

Funding for larger or one-off purchases like home modifications or assistive technology. NDHS can support you in accessing these services through assessments and referrals. 

Carer 

Someone who provides support to a person with a disability. Often a family member. NDHS works closely with carers to coordinate care and provide respite through our services. 

Community Participation 

 Activities that help you get involved in your local area. This includes social events, volunteering, or hobbies. NDHS can support this through personal assistance and transport. 

Core Supports 

Everyday support services such as help with personal care, transport, and daily tasks, key areas where NDHS provides hands-on assistance. 

Early Childhood Early Intervention (ECEI) 

Support for children aged 0–6 with developmental delays or disabilities. NDHS offers early childhood support to help families navigate this part of the NDIS. 

Functional Capacity 

Your ability to carry out everyday activities. It’s a key factor in NDIS eligibility and funding decisions. NDHS helps improve functional capacity through therapies and supports. 

Informal Supports 

Support provided by family, friends or others without payment. NDHS complements these supports with formal, professional services. 

NDIS Plan 

A written document that outlines your goals, funded supports, and how you’ll use your NDIS funding. NDHS can help you understand and implement your plan effectively. 

NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission 

The national body that ensures NDIS providers like NDHS meet safety, quality, and ethical standards. 

Nominee 

A person formally appointed to make decisions or act on behalf of an NDIS participant. NDHS can work with nominees to ensure services are delivered as needed. 

Participant 

A person who is eligible for the NDIS and has an approved plan. NDHS works directly with participants to provide services aligned with their goals. 

Plan Management 

A service that helps you manage your NDIS budget and payments. NDHS offers plan management to help you keep track of your funding without the stress. 

Provider 

An organisation or individual delivering services funded by the NDIS. NDHS is a registered NDIS provider. 

Reasonable and Necessary Supports 

Supports that are funded by the NDIS because they are essential to help you achieve your goals. NDHS services are designed to align with this principle. 

Registered Provider 

A provider that meets strict NDIS standards and is approved by the NDIS Commission. NDHS is registered, which means we’re qualified to offer services to NDIA-managed participants. 

Review 

A formal reassessment of your NDIS plan. NDHS can support you with reports or documentation needed for your plan review. 

Service Agreement 

A written agreement between you and your provider (like NDHS), outlining what services will be delivered and how. We provide clear, easy-to-understand service agreements. 

Support Coordination 

A funded service that helps you connect with service providers and manage your plan. While NDHS is not a support coordinator, we work with coordinators to deliver the right services. 

Support Worker 

A person who helps with day-to-day activities, personal care, or community participation. NDHS employs trained, reliable support workers. 

Supports Catalogue 

A list of all NDIS-funded supports with prices. NDHS uses this to ensure services are claimed accurately and within NDIS pricing rules. 

Therapeutic Supports 

Services like speech therapy, occupational therapy, and psychological support that help improve daily functioning. NDHS provides a range of these supports.
